Record a debit note against a supplier bill

Reduce what you owe a supplier when you return goods or get a price adjustment.

Updated Oct 28, 2026

A debit note is the supplier-side twin of a credit note. Use it when a supplier bill was too high, goods were returned, or a discount was agreed after billing.

Create one

Purchasing › Debit Notes › New Debit Note:

  1. Pick the supplier bill. Only bills that still have a balance due are listed.
  2. Enter the Debit Note Date.
  3. Enter the amount, which must be above zero.
  4. Add a description (for example, "Returned 5 damaged units") and save.

You can also start from a bill so it is already selected.

Rules to know

  • The amount can't exceed the bill's balance due.
  • The date must fall in an open period. If you have closed that period, reopen it first or use a date in an open one.
  • The bill's balance due drops by the debit note amount.

Open the debit note and use Print or PDF to send to your supplier.

Tip: Customer-side corrections use credit notes instead.
