Read the General Ledger and export it

See every posted line for one account with a running balance, filter by date, and download CSV.

Updated Oct 28, 2026

Double Entry › General Ledger shows one account at a time.

Open an account

  1. Pick the Account at the top. It opens on the first active account if you haven't chosen one.
  2. Optionally set From and To dates. With no dates, you see all activity.
  3. Read the table: Date, Reference, Description, Debit, Credit and Balance.

An opening balance row carries whatever was posted before your From date, and the Balance column keeps a running total line by line, oldest first.

Jump in from the Chart of Accounts

On Chart of Accounts, the Ledger link beside an account opens this screen for it. See Understand the Chart of Accounts.

Export

Use the CSV button to download the account you are viewing, with the same dates.

Reading it

  • Assets and expenses normally carry debit balances. Liabilities, equity and revenue carry credit balances.
  • A reversing entry from a void appears as its own line. The original stays.
  • The reference on each line points to the document or journal entry that created it.

Editing accounts that have activity

Once an account has any posted entries, its code and type are locked. You can still rename it, change its description or make it inactive. This keeps old figures from changing.

Tip: Use the ledger to check one account before the Trial Balance. See Run the Trial Balance and financial reports.
